ABSTRACT
This article describes one of the plein-air drawing and painting workshops organised for second-semester students of the long-cycle study programme by the Department of Architectural Heritage and Art of the Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology. The tradition of teaching drawing done from nature as part of fi eld studies dates back to the early days of the Faculty. Drawing training, which is an integral part of the compulsory training provided for in the statutory educational standards, has been a permanent element of the teaching process at architectural studies in Poland since 2019. The purpose of this article is to present the importance of plein-air drawing and painting workshops in the education of future architects, using the example of one of the drawing training courses organised in Płock in the academic year 2023/24. The case study discusses in detail the form, methods and programme of the fi eld activities conducted, as well as the results achieved and the learning outcomes. The students have acquired the versatile skills of analysing and recording the features of the surrounding cultural landscape, on an architectural, urban and detail scale alike.
