About the Journal
"Architecture and Town Planning Quarterly" is a peer-reviewed academic journal, showcasing the title areas in a broad and interdisciplinary manner. Original, previously unpublished texts, supported by a wealth of iconographic material, are devoted to history, theory, conservation, design practice, urban planning and landscaping. Related to architecture and urban planning are social, aesthetic, technical, climatic issues, the relationship of architecture and urban planning to other fields of science and art, and architectural and urban planning education. The pages of the journal are filled with research papers, studies, reports, presentations of profiles of architects, urban planners and scholars, and reviews of publications on architecture and urban planning.
The journal aims to create a space for the presentation of research results, new methodological and theoretical approaches and for the creative exchange of ideas. It is important to create a basis for scientific discussion and to develop new criteria for evaluating the phenomena described, to popularise knowledge in the spirit of social responsibility and, at the same time, to support contemporary design practice.
"Architecture and Town Planning Quarterly" has been published since 1956. It was established as a journal of the Committee on Architecture and Urban Planning of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Since its inception, the journal has been very much influenced by staff and graduates of the Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology – editors and members of the Scientific Council. Professor Jan Zachwatowicz became the first Editor-in-Chief, and this position was later filled by Wojciech Kalinowski, Wanda Puget, Lech Kłosiewicz, Jadwiga Roguska and Danuta Kłosek-Kozłowska. Many members of the Scientific Council, as well as authors of published texts, also came from the Faculty of Architecture of the PW. In 2019, the Warsaw University of Technology became the co-publisher of the magazine, and from 2024 the University is its sole owner.
