ABSTRACT
The article supplements the analyses of the Mniszechs’ palace in Warsaw present in the literature with the context not only of French architecture - where, among other things, the mansard roof appeared - but at the same time points to the importance of 18th-century palaces in Poland as an important point of reference for Saxon artists. The Mniszech residence in Warsaw introduced interior dispositions and mansard roof constructions to the capital, creating a unique ceremonial space that had the character of a political manifestation, binding the Grand Marshal of the Crown to the Wettin court. However, comparative analyses of French palaces or magnate residences in the Commonwealth reveal a diversity of inspirations shaping Warsaw’s architectural and foundation community, based on solutions operating in the Commonwealth.
