ABSTRACT
Zygmunt Kamiński is one of the most important figures for the Faculty of Architecture of the Warsaw University of Technology – he is one of the co-organizers of the university, which was founded in 1915, as well as co-author of the curriculum at the faculty established at that time. However, despite the fact that he occupies an important place in the general consciousness of graduates, especially that of the generation he educated himself, to this day he has not lived to see a proper study of life and creativity. Biographical notes found in available studies are incomplete or ridden with errors. In addition, more or less true opinions or anecdotes about his personality and his views functioning in general circulation slightly distort the view of his true character, and for this reason these also require reliable examination and verification. Materials concerning the period of education of Z. Kamiński, which are the basis for writing the article, were found during extensive research on the issue of teaching artistic disciplines at the Faculty of Architecture of the Warsaw University of Technology. Z. Kamiński's biography covering the period of early youth and years of education was developed in this respect for the first time. The authors used the documents that they found as well as works from the period of academic studies. On the basis of these materials, juxtaposed with Z. Kamiński's memories from the time slots corresponding to the period of his studies, the path of his education was reconstructed, interwoven with scholarship trips. The itinerary created in this way allowed us to outline the beginnings of his work and to see the impact that the knowledge and creative experience gained during academic studies had on the drawing curriculum created by him in the future at the Faculty of Architecture of the Warsaw University of Technology.
