ABSTRACT
The article explores the role of colour in architectural
drawing. Its use can serve various
purposes, such as emphasising the character of
the object drawn, symbolically separating its
function, or distinguishing it with colour from
its surroundings. A meticulously observed and
depicted building conveys through its colour
not only information about the materials and
pigments used, but also a wealth of impressions
dependent on the light in which the drawing
was made. It therefore also gives an idea of the
weather at the specifi c moment, which may be
linked to the prevailing conditions in a particular
location, and thus to the colour schemes
used in the design. On the other hand, accurately
rendered colours, which depend on the
specific atmosphere, allow one to accurately
interpret the colour scheme of the building. It
is important to bear in mind colour saturation,
which is linked to the nature of the colours being
examined and the intensity with which light
affects the surroundings at the specifi c moment.
Another key factor in this situation is the colour
temperature of the light, which affects the building
being drawn. As the colour temperature of
the light changes, the colours change too. It is
essential to note these changes in order to describe
the situation.
